Leland Garcia and Dylan Seguin of Arroyo High School have distinguished themselves both on the football field and in the classroom, earning them National Scholar-Athlete awards. The honors were bestowed by the San Gabriel Valley Chapter of the National Football Foundation at a special ceremony held on Wednesday, March 12, at Almansor Court in Alhambra.
Garcia and Seguin have become synonymous with success at Arroyo High, combining stellar academic records with exceptional athletic performances. This recognition underscores the importance of nurturing well-rounded individuals who excel in multiple disciplines.
During their time at Arroyo, both students were key players in the Knights’ football program, leading the team to several triumphant seasons while maintaining high GPAs. Garcia, playing as a quarterback, and Seguin, a linebacker, were pivotal in both offensive and defensive plays, with their leadership extending beyond gameplay to mentoring younger teammates.
The National Scholar-Athlete awards are part of a broader effort to promote balanced development in student-athletes, encouraging them to prioritize their education while engaging in sports. According to Arroyo High School officials, programs that foster academic and athletic excellence are crucial in preparing students for diverse challenges beyond high school.
Looking forward, both Garcia and Seguin have their sights set on collegiate athletics and academics, hoping to continue balancing their sports with their scholarly pursuits.
The community is invited to support and celebrate the ongoing achievements of Arroyo’s student-athletes at upcoming school and sports events, details of which can be found on the Arroyo High School website and social media pages. As Garcia and Seguin prepare to transition to college, they leave behind a legacy that will inspire Arroyo Knights for years to come.
The Pasadena/San Gabriel Valley Chapter of the National Football Foundation (NFF) was established in 1969 and serves the greater San Gabriel Valley area, impacting over a million residents. The chapter’s mission includes recognizing and honoring outstanding high school senior scholar-athletes at its annual Scholar-Athlete Awards Banquet, inspiring youth to excel academically and athletically, promoting campus leadership and community service, supporting the collegiate academic pursuits of San Gabriel Valley scholar-athletes, and promoting high school football as an integral part of the school curriculum.
Each year, the chapter reviews submissions from 68 area public schools for its awards, offering scholarships to athletes attending public or private schools within its region.
