Rosemead Backpack Giveaway returns on Aug. 7 as the city prepares to provide free backpacks and school supplies to hundreds of local students before the new academic year. The annual event will distribute 700 backpacks to students in transitional kindergarten through 12th grade at Rosemead Park.
The giveaway will take place from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 7, at Rosemead Park, 4343 Encinita Ave. Backpacks will be available while supplies last.
Rosemead Backpack Giveaway Supports Local Students
The City of Rosemead encourages families to attend the event as part of its National Night Out celebration and Concerts in the Park. Residents can pick up school supplies while enjoying live music, community activities and opportunities to meet local public safety personnel.
Priority for backpacks will be given to students attending local schools, including those in the Rosemead School District, Garvey School District, Rosemead High School and San Gabriel High School.
To receive a backpack, students must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Families must also provide proof of Rosemead residency by presenting a valid identification card or a current utility bill.
Students who do not live in Rosemead may receive a backpack between 7 and 7:30 p.m., provided supplies remain available after resident distribution.
Mayor Sandra Armenta, who serves as chair of the backpack program, said the city remains committed to helping students begin the school year prepared.
“We are proud to support our students and families by providing resources that help them start the school year ready to learn,” Armenta said. “We encourage families to join us early, as supplies are limited.”
City officials expect strong attendance as families prepare for the start of the 2026-27 school year. The annual backpack giveaway has become one of Rosemead’s signature community events by combining educational support with neighborhood engagement.
National Night Out is held each year in communities across the country to strengthen partnerships between residents and public safety agencies. Rosemead’s celebration pairs the nationwide event with its summer concert series, creating an evening focused on community connections while providing practical assistance to local families.
Residents planning to attend are encouraged to arrive early because backpack distribution will end once all 700 backpacks have been claimed.
