Temple City EV Team Showcases the ingenuity of local students who recently presented their electric vehicle project during the 2026 Electric Vehicle Summit at Rio Hondo College. Members of Temple City High School’s Racer X² EV Team demonstrated how classroom learning and hands-on experience are preparing students for careers in California’s expanding clean transportation industry.
The summit, hosted by Rio Hondo College’s Career and Workforce Education Division in partnership with the Los Angeles Regional Consortium, brought together educators, industry leaders, workforce development professionals and elected officials. The event highlighted the importance of building stronger connections between schools and California’s growing electric vehicle workforce.
Team Showcases Student Engineering
Representing Temple City High School, the Racer X² EV Team displayed its student-designed electric race vehicle and presented a video documenting the planning, construction and refinement of the project. Students shared how they combined engineering principles with practical problem-solving while designing and assembling the vehicle.
The project gave participants valuable experience in electrical systems, fabrication, vehicle design and project management. It also demonstrated how career technical education programs allow students to apply classroom concepts to real-world challenges.
More than 10 green technology companies participated in the summit, providing opportunities for students and educators to explore emerging transportation technologies and learn about workforce needs. Company representatives discussed the technical skills employers seek as California continues transitioning toward zero-emission vehicles.
The summit also featured presentations from community leaders and elected officials who emphasized the importance of expanding career education programs that prepare students for high-demand industries. Rio Hondo College faculty led breakout sessions covering Alternative Fuels and Geographic Information Systems, giving attendees insight into educational pathways available after high school.
Career Pathways Continue To Expand
California continues investing in clean transportation infrastructure, creating demand for technicians, engineers, electricians, manufacturing specialists and other skilled professionals. Community colleges, including Rio Hondo College, are expanding workforce education programs that provide technical training, industry certifications and direct connections with employers.
The summit concluded with a Green Technology Transportation Expo, where participants viewed the latest transportation technologies and met companies working at the forefront of California’s clean mobility industry. Students gained firsthand exposure to career opportunities while learning how innovation continues to shape the transportation sector.
For Temple City High School students, participating in the regional summit represented more than an opportunity to showcase their accomplishments. The experience reinforced the value of hands-on learning and demonstrated how partnerships between schools, colleges and industry can help students build skills that translate into future educational and career opportunities.
