The El Monte Union High School District’s Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council (SAC) closed out the 2024-25 school year with a final meeting and celebration on May 19. The gathering brought together student leaders from across the district for breakfast, reflection, and the election of next year’s council leadership. The event also served as a send-off for graduating seniors, marking the end of one chapter and the beginning of another for El Monte Union students.
Reflecting on a Year of Impact
Held at the district office, the final SAC meeting celebrated a year marked by student engagement, collaborative problem-solving, and open dialogue with district leadership. Superintendent Dr. Edward Zuniga addressed the students, expressing appreciation for their time and contributions.
Throughout the school year, SAC members met regularly to share student perspectives on issues ranging from mental health services to campus safety and academic supports. Their input helped shape district initiatives and improved communication between school leaders and students.
Graduating seniors were recognized during the breakfast for their contributions and leadership. Many shared reflections on how SAC participation had strengthened their confidence and leadership skills.
Welcoming New Leaders and Members
One of the highlights of the meeting was the election of new SAC leadership for the 2025-26 school year. Candidates presented brief speeches before members cast their votes. Those elected will take on the responsibility of guiding meetings, organizing student-led initiatives, and serving as liaisons between their peers and district administrators.
In addition to electing officers, current members welcomed a cohort of new representatives set to join SAC next fall. These students will represent each of the district’s high schools and continue the council’s mission of advocacy and leadership. Returning members offered words of encouragement and advice, emphasizing the importance of speaking up and staying committed to the process.
El Monte Union Students Prepare for Year Ahead
As El Monte Union students look ahead to summer break, SAC members remain committed to carrying forward the momentum built over the past year. Topics for discussion in the coming term are expected to include academic recovery, student mental health, and campus climate.
The Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council will reconvene at the start of the 2025-26 school year with a renewed focus on inclusion, student engagement, and leadership development.
With another year of service complete, the SAC stands as a strong example of student-led leadership in the El Monte Union High School District—building bridges between youth and administration, and amplifying the voices of El Monte Union students.
