The City of Rosemead, in partnership with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, Temple Station, is inviting residents to its inaugural Community Academy. This free, seven-week program, starting April 16, 2025, aims to bridge the gap between the community and law enforcement through education and engagement.

The Community Academy will provide Rosemead locals with a unique behind-the-scenes look at law enforcement operations, from patrol procedures and traffic management to drug awareness initiatives. Each Wednesday, participants will delve into various topics such as the workings of the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office and the city’s government functions. Special sessions include a patrol ride-a-long, a tour of the Temple Sheriff’s Station, and an insightful look into the Twin Towers Custody Facility.

The program’s focus points also include critical contemporary issues such as fentanyl risks and homelessness outreach efforts, shedding light on how local law enforcement addresses these challenges. Temple Station’s commitment to enhancing its community relations is evident in this educational initiative, designed to foster a deeper understanding and respect among residents for the complexities of law enforcement and governance.

Public Safety Supervisor Mandy Wong, spearheading the organization of the Community Academy, emphasizes its benefits. “This academy is a proactive step towards transparent and informed community relationships. It’s a chance for residents to get actively involved, ask questions, and learn how safety and order are maintained,” Wong said.

The academy will culminate in a graduation ceremony on May 28, 2025, celebrating the participants’ commitment and newly gained insights. With space limited to 30 participants, Rosemead residents are encouraged to apply promptly to secure a spot.

Applications are open until April 3, 2025, with selections being made by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department to ensure a diverse and engaged group of participants. Interested individuals can apply by contacting Mandy Wong at (626) 569-2168 or via email at [email protected], or by downloading the application form from the City of Rosemead’s official website at www.cityofrosemead.org.

This initiative represents a constructive platform for dialogue and understanding, an opportunity that community members are urged not to miss. Whether it’s gaining a firsthand experience of a sheriff’s patrol routine or understanding the critical services provided by the coroner’s office, the Community Academy promises to be an enlightening experience.
