IRWINDALE — With Irwindale’s new public library now open, the Irwindale Homework Help Program will soon give K-12 students another resource for the school year. Resident registration opens Monday, Aug. 24, and participation is free for Irwindale families.
The program will offer one-hour tutoring sessions from 3 to 6 p.m. Tuesdays through Thursdays. Sessions begin Sept. 8 and continue through June 3, 2027.
A parent or legal guardian must provide proof of residency when registering a resident student. Nonresident registration opens Aug. 31 and costs $20 per month.
Registration is available in person only. The library will accept the first 30 sign-ups, according to the City of Irwindale.
Irwindale Homework Help Program Supports Students
The program will operate for most of the 2026-27 school year, giving students access to academic assistance during after-school hours.
Tutoring is available by appointment in one-hour sessions based on tutor availability. Students from kindergarten through 12th grade may participate.
The program also continues a service the library offered before moving into its new building. A city library calendar from 2024 listed homework assistance for K-12 students on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. That program also provided free participation for Irwindale residents and charged nonresidents $20 monthly.

New Library Expands Learning Opportunities
This year’s tutoring program begins less than a month after the new Irwindale Public Library celebrated its grand opening Aug. 15.
The Mid Valley News previously reported on the yearslong effort to develop the facility. Community workshops began in 2023 and allowed residents to provide input about the spaces and services they wanted.
The completed library includes children’s, teen and adult areas. It also features two study rooms, a Learning Center, Community Room, Local History Room and other amenities.
Those spaces provide new settings for educational programs as the library settles into its role as a community learning center. The Homework Help program will be among the first school-year services offered after the opening.

Registration Begins Aug. 24
The Irwindale Homework Help Program begins Sept. 8 and runs through June 3. Appointments will be offered between 3 and 6 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday.
The Irwindale Public Library is located at 5030 N. Irwindale Ave. The city lists its hours as 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

For Irwindale families, the tutoring program puts the city’s newly opened library to work as students begin another academic year. Its return also connects a longtime library service with a new facility built to support learning and community programs.
