Baldwin Park Earth Day Combines Service and Sustainability
Baldwin Park will hold a combined Earth Day and Arbor Day celebration on Saturday, April 26, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Cruz Baca TransCenter and City Parking Structure at 3825 Downing Avenue. The event brings together environmental education, hands-on community service, and free eco-friendly services for residents.
Mayor Alejandra Avila described the celebration as a reflection of the city’s pride and commitment to environmental stewardship. She emphasized that by working together to improve public spaces, residents foster civic pride while receiving practical support for sustainable living.
The celebration includes a Clean-Up and Beautification Day where community members will volunteer across Baldwin Park. Volunteer check-in begins at 9 a.m., and lunch will be provided to all participants as a thank-you. Residents are asked to wear work clothes and closed-toe shoes, and those younger than 14 must attend with an adult.
Environmental Services and Local Impact
In addition to clean-up efforts, the City will offer several services to Baldwin Park residents with proof of address. These include drop-off options for bulky items, e-waste, and paper for shredding, as well as the availability of free mulch and used oil containers. A fruit tree giveaway and electric bike demonstration will also be part of the event. These services are designed to reduce waste, promote reuse, and introduce residents to alternative transportation and sustainable landscaping options.
The City will also lead a tree planting project in a local neighborhood and install perennial flowers at Morgan Park. These efforts contribute to the City’s goal of expanding its urban forest and improving public spaces for all.
Registration and Community Participation
Mayor Avila said these efforts strengthen neighborhood bonds while offering residents a chance to take part in building a better Baldwin Park. She noted the importance of shared community events in promoting awareness, sustainability, and a sense of ownership among residents.
Residents interested in volunteering must register by Friday, April 18. For more information or to sign up, they may contact Vicky Valverde at [email protected].
The Baldwin Park Earth Day celebration continues to build momentum for local environmental efforts, turning shared values into action through a citywide day of service and learning.
