The Rosemead School District (RSD) celebrated a year of academic progress as reflected in the recently updated California School Dashboard data for 2024. The Dashboard, a comprehensive state tool for measuring the performance of K–12 schools, highlighted improvements across key indicators for the district’s schools.

According to the data released on November 21, all significant performance indicators for RSD, including reading and math proficiency, engagement, and overall student well-being, showed positive trends. The district earned Green ratings across the board, signaling sustained improvement.

Board President John Quintanilla emphasized the collaborative efforts behind these achievements. He noted the dedication of students, teachers, staff, and families in fostering academic success, engagement, and well-being. These results, he said, demonstrate the district’s commitment to building on its momentum and creating lasting improvements.

The district reported a 7.3 percent increase in English Learner Progress Rates, a 3.6 percent decline in chronic absenteeism compared to 2023, and a cumulative 5.6 percent drop in absenteeism since 2022. Suspension rates fell by 0.6 percent. Students showed steady progress in English Language Arts and significant improvement in mathematics, with the latter moving from a Yellow to a Green rating on the Dashboard.

Other notable achievements include a shift from Orange to Green ratings for the English Learner Progress Indicator and suspension rates. Chronic absenteeism maintained its Green status for the second year in a row, reflecting the district’s continued focus on student engagement and attendance.

Incoming Superintendent Dr. Philip D’Agostino expressed pride in the district’s accomplishments, highlighting the importance of innovative programs and collaborative partnerships. He acknowledged the hard work of teachers and staff in advancing excellence and equity, adding that the district remains committed to preparing students for future success.  The Rosemead School District serves over 2,400 students from Rosemead, El Monte, San Gabriel, and Temple City. Its schools include four elementary campuses and Muscatel Middle School. Among the district’s programs is the Mandarin Dual Language Immersion initiative at Encinita Elementary School, which provides a unique bilingual learning experience.

District leaders affirmed that while the data underscores strong progress, challenges remain.
