The Top Priority of Citrus College

By Dr. Geraldine M. Perri, Citrus College Superintendent/President

Since the outbreak of COVID-19, communities across the globe – including those in Southern California – have been faced with an unprecedented crisis.

In response, Citrus College closed its campus and transitioned to remote delivery of instruction and student support services beginning March 18, 2020. As superintendent/president, it was a difficult decision to make, but the safety and well-being of our students, faculty and staff will always be the college’s top priority.

As this public health emergency has temporarily altered the way we live and work, finding inspiration while adjusting to these new conditions has been challenging. However, our dedicated and passionate employees know that student success and completion is the driving force behind what we do. It is not just our motivation, it is also our guiding philosophy and our daily inspiration.

I am proud to share that faculty and staff have managed to keep students actively engaged in their studies. Additionally, the Citrus College Foundation launched a campaign to help students access the equipment they need, the college earned a national award for innovative communication, and two members of the Citrus Community College District Board of Trustees were honored for years of dedication and service to this institution. These small examples demonstrate the remarkable work being performed by Citrus College during this time.

The positive attitude of our students, employees and governing board is a testament to the collaborative spirit of Citrus College. I am confident that, after we surmount this challenge, we will look back at this chapter and be proud that we did our very best to serve our students and advance the legacy of Citrus College.

While some of the issues and logistics many of us face in this “new normal” are difficult, they pale in comparison to those afflicted with this illness. On behalf of the entire Citrus College community, I am thankful to those throughout the nation who are in critical leadership positions, as well as those providing health care and other vital services on the front lines of the pandemic. I also want to express my sincere gratitude to local communities for their partnership during this time.
