Temple City Parks Celebrate community, wellness and outdoor recreation throughout July as the city marks National Park and Recreation Month with a full calendar of activities. This year’s celebration highlights the important role parks play in bringing neighbors together while encouraging healthy, active lifestyles.
The annual observance is coordinated by the National Recreation and Park Association and carries the 2026 theme, “The Power Of,” recognizing how parks and recreation programs strengthen communities through fitness, education and social connection.
Temple City’s Parks and Recreation Department has scheduled a variety of family-friendly events designed to encourage residents to enjoy local parks while participating in outdoor activities, concerts and recreational programs.
Temple City Parks Celebrate Summer Fun
One of the month’s signature attractions is the city’s Concerts in the Park series, held every Wednesday evening at Temple City Park. The free performances feature a variety of musical styles, including 1980s and 1990s favorites, a Fleetwood Mac tribute band, funk and reggae music, offering residents an opportunity to enjoy live entertainment in a relaxed outdoor setting.
Families seeking a unique summer experience can also take part in Camp-A-Palooza on July 17 and 18. The overnight camping event transforms Temple City Park into a family campground, complete with organized activities and opportunities to enjoy the outdoors without leaving the city.
The celebration continues July 24 with the Neon Night Walk, where participants are encouraged to wear glow gear while taking an evening walk through the park. Throughout the month, the Parks and Recreation Department is also promoting youth sports, fitness classes, recreational excursions and seasonal programs for residents of all ages.
Although Temple City sits just beyond The Mid Valley News’ primary coverage area, many San Gabriel Valley residents regularly attend community events and recreation programs throughout neighboring cities, making the activities a regional attraction during the summer months.
Temple City Parks Celebrate Quality Of Life
The monthlong celebration also recognizes the employees, recreation leaders, maintenance crews and volunteers who work year-round to keep parks safe, clean and welcoming.
According to the National Recreation and Park Association, modern park systems provide far more than playgrounds and sports fields. Parks support physical activity, youth development, senior services, environmental stewardship and community gatherings that improve residents’ quality of life. Research has shown that access to parks can promote better physical health, reduce stress and strengthen neighborhood connections.
