Temple City will pause its overnight parking permit rule during two holiday periods, giving residents and visitors more flexibility to park on local streets. The city announced the suspension for the week of Thanksgiving and again for the holiday season in late 2025. The temporary change applies only to the city’s 2 a.m. to 5 a.m. permit rule. All other parking rules, including street sweeping, will stay active.
Parking rules during November
Temple City holiday parking relief will begin at midnight on Monday, Nov. 24, and run through 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 30. The pause covers the full Thanksgiving travel period. City officials stated that residents should still follow posted restrictions tied to street sweeping, fire lanes, and oversized vehicle rules. The city noted that teams will continue regular patrols for violations not tied to overnight permits.
City staff said the change supports households that host relatives or have limited driveway space during the holiday week. Longtime residents often see a rise in overnight visitors, which can strain the permit system. The limited suspension aims to ease that pressure without affecting the city’s regular safety rules.
Winter suspension in 2025
The second round of Temple City holiday parking relief will begin at midnight on Sunday, Dec. 21, 2025, and extend through 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 4, 2026. That period includes Christmas, New Year’s Eve, and New Year’s Day. The city expects a high volume of travel and at-home gatherings during those two weeks.
Street sweeping will continue on its normal schedule. The municipal code section covering oversized vehicles will also stay active. City leaders said these measures protect neighborhood access and maintain visibility for drivers. During past suspensions, the city reported steady compliance with these rules.
Resident guidance for both periods
The city urges residents to check posted signs near schools, parks, and civic buildings. Street sweeping tickets remain among the most common citations during parking rule pauses. Residents may also report abandoned cars or blocked driveways through the city’s main service portal at the Temple City website, located at https://www.ci.temple-city.ca.us.
Households expecting guests should still move vehicles when posted sweeper times arrive. Those with oversized trucks or trailers should review the rules listed in the Temple City Municipal Code. The city noted that the holiday suspension covers only the overnight permit requirement.
Community focus
Temple City releases this update each year to make parking more flexible while keeping neighborhoods accessible and safe. The city plans to revisit the program in early 2026 and gather public input on any future adjustments. For now, residents can expect broader access to street parking during the outlined dates.
