The Temple City Committee on Aging is recruiting residents age 50 and older to help shape programs and services for older adults in the community. The volunteer advisory committee works with the city’s Parks and Recreation Department to support the Temple City Senior Master Plan while providing recommendations on issues affecting local seniors.
The committee meets quarterly on the fourth Tuesday of January, April, July and October at 6:30 p.m. at the Live Oak Park Community Center. Special meetings may be scheduled when needed, and regular meetings are canceled if there are no agenda items.
Temple City Committee On Aging
Established by the City Council in 2019, the nine-member Committee on Aging serves as an advisory body focused on improving the quality of life for older adults. Members work with city staff to review senior programs, recommend new services, evaluate the effectiveness of existing offerings and advocate for issues affecting the aging population. The committee also provides input to the Parks and Recreation Commission and the City Council on programs and policies that benefit seniors.
According to the city, committee members may come from a variety of backgrounds, including community organizations, nonprofit agencies, faith-based groups, businesses and professions related to aging. Members serve staggered two-year terms, and there is no limit on reappointment.
Residents interested in serving should be at least 50 years old and have an interest in enhancing programs and services for Temple City’s senior community. Committee members play a role in advancing the goals outlined in the city’s Senior Master Plan while helping identify emerging needs among older residents.
The committee is one of several volunteer advisory bodies that provide community input on city programs and policies. Its recommendations help guide decisions affecting recreation, wellness, advocacy and community engagement for older adults.
