by | Oct 3, 2025 | Arcadia, Around the Valley

Here to Serve will host its annual Take a Bite Out of Cancer fundraising gala at the Arcadia Community Center. The event will raise money to support families facing pediatric cancer and help expand the nonprofit’s reach to more households in need.

Event features food, auctions, and entertainment

Guests can enjoy tastings from local food vendors, bid in live and silent auctions, and receive one complimentary wine or beer ticket. Entertainment will include comedy by Amy Ashton and magic from Nader Hanna. The evening will also feature guest speaker Priscilla Zaragoza, who will share her family’s story of navigating her young son’s cancer journey.

A no-host bar, photo booth, and community atmosphere will round out the evening. Event organizers are also seeking sponsors, auction donations, and volunteers to assist with setup, decorations, dessert coordination, and promotion. Proceeds will directly support Here to Serve’s work with families. More details, including ticket information, are available at heretoserve.org.

About Here to Serve

Here to Serve is a nonprofit based in Monrovia that provides nonmedical support to families coping with childhood cancer. The organization offers wraparound services such as fundraising assistance, volunteer coordination, and personalized support through Family Care Coordinators.

Its mission is to serve households that may not qualify for government aid or who face gaps in support during treatment. According to the group, the cost of supporting one family for a year averages around $6,000, reflecting the extensive needs of families caring for a child with cancer.

Here to Serve partners with community groups, businesses, and faith organizations to strengthen its network of volunteers and donors. It encourages both individual contributions and group sponsorships to ensure families receive consistent, practical support.

Community role in supporting families

The fundraiser offers San Gabriel Valley residents a chance to make a direct difference in the lives of local families. Attending the event, donating items, volunteering time, or contributing funds are all ways to participate.

By supporting Take a Bite Out of Cancer, the community can help relieve the burdens families face while also enjoying an evening of food, entertainment, and fellowship.
