El Monte community policing took center stage this month as a longtime local officer was recognized for two decades of service focused on trust, outreach, and neighborhood engagement.

Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors Chair and First District Supervisor Hilda L. Solis presented a commendation scroll to Jesus Rojas of the El Monte Police Department after he received the 2025 Centurion Award for Excellence in Community Policing from the Peace Officers Association of Los Angeles County.

The Centurion Award honors officers who demonstrate outstanding leadership, innovation, and dedication to strengthening trust between law enforcement and the communities they serve. County officials said the recognition reflects sustained commitment rather than a single achievement.

El Monte Community Policing Focused on Trust

Rojas has served the El Monte Police Department for 20 years, building a career centered on community-based policing strategies. His work has emphasized consistent engagement with residents through schools, families, and local organizations.

In a statement released by her office, Solis praised Rojas for exemplifying the principles of El Monte community policing through daily service and long-term relationship building. She highlighted his efforts to foster positive interactions between officers and residents outside of enforcement situations.

Programs supported by Rojas include the department’s Citizens Academy, National Night Out events, and annual holiday toy and turkey giveaways. Officials said these initiatives create opportunities for open dialogue and help residents better understand local law enforcement practices.

“As a resident of El Monte, I am proud to honor Cpl. Rojas for his commitment to building relationships, supporting youth, and serving with integrity,” Solis said. “This recognition reflects the deep gratitude our community holds for his tireless service.”

Award Recognizes Longstanding Service

According to POALAC, the Centurion Award for Excellence in Community Policing is presented to officers whose work demonstrates best practices in modern policing, including collaboration, transparency, and community engagement. County leaders noted that Rojas’ approach prioritizes prevention and communication, particularly with young people and families. Through school visits and community events, he has focused on creating familiarity and trust between residents and officers.

Officials said such efforts align with broader public safety goals that emphasize partnership and shared responsibility as key components of effective policing.

Local Service with Regional Impact

The award places Rojas among a select group of officers recognized across Los Angeles County for excellence in community policing. Solis said his recognition highlights the importance of officers who live and work in the communities they serve.

City and county officials congratulated Rojas on the honor, noting that his career reflects the lasting value of El Monte community policing in strengthening public trust and neighborhood connections.
