The City of Rosemead has opened registration for its 2026 Youth In Government Day Program, inviting local high school juniors and seniors to step into civic leadership roles this spring.
The two-part Youth In Government Day program will take place March 19 and April 16, 2026, according to a city announcement and promotional flier. The program offers students a hands-on look at how municipal government operates and how local decisions affect residents.
City officials describe the initiative as an interactive experience focused on public speaking, collaboration, and civic engagement. Students will serve as shadow city officials, participate in a guided city tour, and take part in a mock City Council meeting.
Program Structure And Key Dates
The Youth In Government Day program begins March 19 with a Shadow City Officials session. Participants will be paired with city leaders and staff to observe daily operations and learn how departments function.
On April 16, students will return for a city tour and a mock City Council meeting. During that session, participants will present, debate, and vote on agenda items, gaining insight into parliamentary procedure and public policy discussions.
The last day to register is March 2, according to the city flier. Applications are available online through the City of Rosemead’s Parks and Recreation Department website at https://rosemeadca.gov/parks_recreation/youth_in_government_day.php.
The program is open to high school juniors and seniors who reside in Rosemead. Students must be in good academic standing and available to attend both program dates.
Building Civic Awareness In Rosemead
City leaders state that the Youth In Government Day program aims to build political awareness, leadership skills, and confidence among Rosemead youth. By working directly with elected officials and city staff, students gain exposure to local governance beyond the classroom.
Programs like Youth In Government Day reflect a broader effort by local agencies to encourage civic participation at an early age. Participants learn how city councils set policy, approve budgets, and address community concerns.
Rosemead officials have promoted the program as an opportunity for students to see how their voices can shape their community. Through public speaking exercises and collaborative projects, participants practice skills that extend beyond government service.
For more information, residents can contact the city at 626-569-2134 or visit the city’s website. As the March 2 registration deadline approaches, city officials encourage eligible students to apply and take part in the 2026 Youth In Government Day program.
