The California Department of Education released statewide test results this week showing the Rosemead School District outperforming county and state averages in English language arts, mathematics, and science while identifying areas for continued growth.
District officials reported that 59.23% of students met or exceeded standards in English language arts, compared with 50.50% countywide and 48.82% statewide. Scores in fifth, sixth, and eighth grades improved over last year. In mathematics, 54.16% of Rosemead students met or exceeded standards—far above Los Angeles County’s 39.25% and the state’s 37.30%. The district also improved five percentage points in math since 2022.
Science results reflected similar progress, with 43.3% of students meeting or exceeding standards on the California Science Test, compared to 32.66% statewide.
Student Groups Show Measurable Progress
Socio-economically disadvantaged students made notable gains, outpacing districtwide growth. In English language arts, 53.9% met or exceeded standards, while in mathematics, 48.28% did—an eight-point increase since 2022. Science proficiency among these students rose by five points, to 40.76%.
Hispanic students demonstrated an eight-point increase in math scores since 2022 and a six-point gain in science, exceeding the district’s overall growth rates. District leaders cited these improvements as evidence of targeted efforts to close achievement gaps and expand academic support for all learners.
Students with disabilities also showed progress, with 15.97% meeting or exceeding standards in math and 13.64% in science. In English language arts, 11.11% reached proficiency. Superintendent Dr. Philip D’Agostino said those results highlight both the district’s achievements and the ongoing need for targeted interventions.
Leadership Commends Staff and Students
“The Board of Trustees is incredibly proud of the continued academic growth across our schools,” said Board President Diane Benitez. “These results are a testament to the hard work of our educators and the perseverance of our students.”
Superintendent D’Agostino added, “As we celebrate these encouraging results and steady progress, we know our work is far from done. Now is the time for all of us—educators, families, and community—to build on our success by strengthening instruction and expanding supports so every child in Rosemead can achieve at the highest level.”
Serving Rosemead and Surrounding Communities
The Rosemead School District serves 2,431 students across four elementary schools—Encinita, Mildred B. Janson, Savannah, and Emma W. Shuey—and Muscatel Middle School. The district includes portions of Rosemead, El Monte, San Gabriel, and Temple City.
