In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Rosemead School District Board of Trustees and Superintendent in mid-March together decided that in the best interest of the Rosemead students and staff it was necessary to proceed to a School Closure status.
With that decision, all teachers moved to providing high quality learning opportunities via a Distance Learning model.
The District made available Chromebooks for families who requested them. More than 1,000 Chromebooks have been distributed to students. After working with our phone carrier, the District was also able to secure 140 hotspots and make them available to families who lacked internet service.
Since mid-March Superintendent Ruvalcaba, alongside all other local Superintendents worked on requesting further assistance from local, state, and federal officials to assist school districts with ensuring student access to learning opportunities during the school closure period.
On April 30, 2020, Superintendent Ruvalcaba was notified that the California Department of Education (CDE) and the CDE Foundation was awarding the Rosemead School District 500 Chromebooks. Today, the District received the shipment of Chromebooks from Office Depot.
