Pride of the Valley Run Celebrates Tradition

|

BALDWIN PARK — Pride of the Valley Run returns for its 31st year on Aug. 1, bringing runners, walkers and families back to Morgan Park for one of Baldwin Park’s longest-standing community traditions. What began as a local road race has grown into an annual celebration of health, family and hometown pride that continues to unite residents of all ages.

Each summer, hundreds of participants gather before sunrise to take part in the event. Some compete in the 5K or 10K hoping to set personal records, while others walk the course with friends, push strollers or cheer on young children participating in the popular Tike Trot. Regardless of experience or pace, participants share the same goal of celebrating community through recreation.

Pride of the Valley Run Builds Community

Community races often come and go, but the Pride of the Valley Run has remained a fixture in Baldwin Park for more than three decades. The event has earned a reputation as one of the city’s signature traditions, drawing competitive athletes alongside first-time runners and families looking to spend a summer morning together.

The race welcomes participants of every age and fitness level, creating an atmosphere where participation matters as much as performance. For many residents, the event has become a family tradition passed from one generation to the next. Parents who once crossed the finish line as children now return with sons and daughters, introducing them to an event that has become woven into the city’s identity.

The annual race also reflects Baldwin Park’s commitment to promoting healthy lifestyles. By encouraging residents to run, walk and stay active, the event highlights the role recreation plays in supporting both physical health and stronger neighborhoods.

Morgan Park provides a familiar backdrop for the festivities. Before the starting horn sounds, friends reconnect, volunteers prepare along the course and families gather to encourage participants. Long after the final runner finishes, many remain to celebrate personal accomplishments and enjoy the sense of community that defines the event.

Three Decades Of Healthy Tradition

Over the years, the Pride of the Valley Run has become more than a race. It serves as an annual reunion where neighbors reconnect, local organizations promote wellness and residents celebrate the traditions that make Baldwin Park unique. The event demonstrates how community pride can grow through simple experiences shared year after year.

As Baldwin Park has continued to evolve, the race has remained a constant. New neighborhoods have emerged, children have grown into adults and generations of families have made the event part of their summer calendars. That continuity has helped make the Pride of the Valley Run one of the city’s most enduring traditions.

Registration remains open for the 5K, 10K and Tike Trot, with runners and walkers of all ages and abilities invited to participate. When this year’s starting horn sounds, participants will celebrate not only the miles ahead but also a tradition that has brought Baldwin Park together for more than 30 years. Registration and event information are available through the City of Baldwin Park Recreation Department and RunSignUp.
