Mountain View School District Celebrates Teacher of the Year

Monte Vista School teacher Ana Victoria Rodriguez has been honored as the Mountain View School District’s 2025–2026 Teacher of the Year. Rodriguez, who teaches a third through sixth grade Special Day Class, was recognized during the Los Angeles County Office of Education’s Teacher of the Year luncheon held September 19 at the Hilton Universal City.

Special Educator Finds Her Calling

Rodriguez, now in her 10th year with Mountain View School District, began her career as a Resource Specialist before finding what she calls her “niche” in the Special Day Class program. Her classroom at Monte Vista School provides a structured and supportive environment designed to help students grow academically, socially, and emotionally.

“I am deeply honored and humbled by this recognition,” Rodriguez said. “I don’t seek accolades—I just love being in my classroom with my students. They are the heart of why I do this work.”

Her devotion to teaching is inspired in part by her late mother, who taught Sunday school and encouraged lifelong learning. “My mom always wanted to be a teacher,” Rodriguez said. “Even when she became ill, she reminded me that you’re never too old to learn.”

Guided by Mentorship and Collaboration

Rodriguez credits much of her success to the mentorship of Stacey De Knikker, Director of Student Support Services and Special Education. “When I grow up, I want to be like Stacey,” Rodriguez said. “She and her team are incredibly supportive, always brainstorming ways to bring out the best in our students.”

De Knikker praised Rodriguez’s dedication and teaching excellence. “Ana embodies what it means to be an outstanding educator—adaptable, compassionate, and deeply committed to helping every student reach their full potential,” De Knikker said. “We celebrate her accomplishments and the positive impact she continues to make on students, families, and colleagues.”

Inspiring the Next Generation of Teachers

Beyond her own classroom, Rodriguez also mentors student teachers. For the past three years, she has hosted resident educators, sharing strategies and insights to prepare them for their own classrooms. Her philosophy centers on fostering independence, character, and resilience among students.

“I want my students to become the best versions of themselves,” she said. “That means focusing on kindness, respect, and perseverance.”

A Celebration of Excellence in Education

Superintendent Dr. Raymond Andry and the Mountain View School District Board of Education joined staff, families, and students in celebrating Rodriguez’s award.

“We are incredibly proud of Ms. Rodriguez,” said Andry. “She embodies our mission of inspiring each student to succeed every day. Her passion, humility, and commitment to students make her an inspiration to us all.”
