Mountain View School District is celebrating two employees whose daily work shows how many people contribute to a child’s school experience. Mountain View Employee Honors recognize Jim Morentin as the district’s 2026-27 Teacher of the Year and Andy Sanchez as its 2026-27 Classified Employee of the Year.
Morentin teaches seventh- and eighth-grade mathematics at Parkview School. After 36 years in education, he continues to find joy in teaching and building relationships with students.
He earned a bachelor’s degree from California State University, San Bernardino and a master’s degree from California State University, Los Angeles. His approach centers on kindness, patience and compassion.
Those values shape how Morentin connects with students as they tackle challenging mathematics concepts. Parkview School previously announced his district recognition in its spring newsletter.
Mountain View Employee Honors Reach County Celebration
Morentin represented Mountain View School District at the Los Angeles County Office of Education’s Teachers of the Year celebration Sept. 25. The annual event recognizes district-level Teachers of the Year from across Los Angeles County.
The Los Angeles County Office of Education separately names 16 educators as Los Angeles County Teachers of the Year. Morentin was honored at the celebration as Mountain View’s district Teacher of the Year.
Sanchez serves students in a different role, but his work also reaches far beyond his job title.
He joined Mountain View School District in 2019 and worked at several district sites. Sanchez became day custodian for Preschool Programs in 2022.
His connection with the district’s youngest students includes reading to preschool children, according to a district Preschool Programs newsletter. He also represents the programs on safety committees and helps with emergency preparedness efforts.
The newsletter also highlights Sanchez’s service beyond school campuses. He volunteered during COVID relief food drives and has served through his church, hospitals and care homes.
Service That Strengthens A School Community
Sanchez’s work reflects the important role classified employees play in creating safe and welcoming schools. His recognition also gives the community a closer look at the people who support children outside classroom instruction.
“Jim and Andy are our District’s Teacher and Classified Employee of the Year, and we are equally proud to celebrate the tremendous contributions each of them makes to Team Mt. View,” Superintendent Raymond Andry said.
“Their roles may be different, but both demonstrate the care, dedication and commitment that our students and families experience every day,” Andry said.
Together, the Mountain View Employee Honors celebrate two paths of service built around students. One takes shape through mathematics lessons and patient guidance. The other can be seen in clean preschool spaces, safety work and a custodian taking time to read with children.
For Mountain View families, Morentin and Sanchez offer a reminder that strong schools depend on people serving students in many ways.
