Most Homeowners Still Prefer Selling With an Agent

Selling homes with an agent remains the top choice for homeowners, according to a new national survey from Clever Offers. The study found that sellers who worked with a licensed real estate professional were more satisfied and earned higher profits than those who sold their homes independently.

Nearly nine in ten sellers who used an agent, or 86 percent, reported being happy with their selling method, compared with 71 percent who sold on their own. On average, homeowners who sold with an agent made $138,477 in profit—about $6,255 more than those who did not.

Selling Homes With an Agent Builds Trust and Results

Even as online platforms and direct-buying services expand, most homeowners still prefer selling homes with an agent they trust. The survey revealed that 87 percent of respondents view REALTORS® as the most reliable professionals for selling property, while only 40 percent trust cash-buying companies.

Local real estate professionals across the San Gabriel Valley say these results reflect reality. “Home sales are complex, especially with inspections, pricing, and negotiations,” said a Temple City REALTOR®. “Working with an agent helps sellers avoid mistakes and often secures stronger offers.”

Many Independent Sellers Regret Skipping an Agent

The survey also showed that 36 percent of homeowners who sold without an agent later wished they had used one. Without expert guidance, many struggled with marketing, legal paperwork, and pricing their property competitively.

In markets like El Monte, Baldwin Park, and Rosemead, where housing trends shift quickly, having an experienced agent provides an edge. Agents can help sellers set fair prices, connect with qualified buyers, and manage offers efficiently—critical steps in a fast-paced real estate environment.

Local Market Benefits From Agent Expertise

The benefits of selling homes with an agent extend beyond individual sellers. In competitive regions such as the San Gabriel Valley, professional representation helps maintain transparency, fair pricing, and buyer confidence. As home values fluctuate and inventory remains tight, professional guidance can make all the difference in maximizing returns.

Real estate agents also play an important role in community stability. By helping homeowners navigate regulations and transactions, they support consistent market activity that benefits local economies.

Though technology continues to evolve, the survey makes one point clear: when it comes to selling homes with an agent, expertise and trust remain unmatched. For local homeowners, working with a qualified professional remains the best path to a successful sale.
