Maryvale in Rosemead Honored at Annual Gala

by | Jul 28, 2025 | Rosemead

Maryvale in Rosemead celebrated a historic milestone at its 3rd Annual Harvest of Hope Gala, held earlier this month. The event brought together more than 200 local leaders, supporters, and partners to honor nearly 170 years of service to children and families across Los Angeles County. The evening also recognized Maryvale’s recent designation as the 2025 California Nonprofit of the Year.

Held at a private venue in Los Angeles, the gala offered attendees a moving experience filled with stories of healing, perseverance, and transformation. Several alumni and program participants shared their journeys, demonstrating how Maryvale’s services continue to shape lives throughout the region. Guests were also invited to support current programs through live and silent auctions.

Founded in 1856 by the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul, Maryvale began as Southern California’s first orphanage. Originally located in downtown Los Angeles, the organization relocated to Rosemead in the 1950s to accommodate its expanding mission. Since then, Maryvale has grown into a multi-service nonprofit rooted in trauma-informed care.

Programs That Serve Local Families

Maryvale’s Rosemead campus and satellite locations support hundreds of families each year with services focused on early development, mental health, and housing. Its licensed Early Childhood Education programs operate in both Rosemead and Duarte and serve children from six weeks to five years old. These programs emphasize school readiness and social-emotional growth, especially for children facing adverse circumstances.

In addition to education, Maryvale offers community-based mental health support through its “Connections by Maryvale” program. This outpatient service provides therapy and care coordination for youth and families dealing with trauma, anxiety, behavioral challenges, and more. Services are available in both English and Spanish.

Through its Wraparound Services, Maryvale assembles teams of professionals to help families facing complex needs. These plans often include mental health services, case management, and support for family reunification efforts.

Maryvale also operates Seton House, a transitional housing program for unhoused women and their children. Residents receive shelter, parenting guidance, and financial literacy training to help them move toward permanent housing and economic stability.

Statewide Recognition Reflects Local Impact

Maryvale’s selection as the 2025 California Nonprofit of the Year reflects its long-standing reputation for compassionate, evidence-based care. The honor was announced earlier this summer and presented by state leaders as part of an annual initiative to highlight outstanding nonprofits across California.

Maryvale in Rosemead has become a cornerstone of support in the San Gabriel Valley, providing vital services that help children and families build resilience and stability. The organization plans to use funds raised during the gala to expand its programming and increase outreach in underserved neighborhoods.

Legacy of Maryvale in Rosemead Continues

As Maryvale approaches its 170th anniversary, the organization continues to honor its founding values of dignity, compassion, and community. Its evolution from a 19th-century orphanage to a 21st-century social service agency reflects its ability to adapt while remaining anchored in service.
