A Los Angeles County fire captain suffered a medical emergency while on duty Wednesday, Feb. 9, and died that night at a hospital, authorities said.
Capt. Steven McCann had worked at Station 166 in El Monte, Los Angeles County Firefighters Local 1014 said.

“Captain McCann passed away unexpectedly last night,” the local said on Thursday. “Our thoughts and prayers are with Steve’s family and friends today.”
The captain suffered an unexpected medical emergency around 9:30 p.m. and was taken to a local hospital, where he died, according to a statement from the Fire Department.
“The department extends its heartfelt condolences and sympathies to his family and friends,” the statement said. “We are currently not releasing anything further. We ask that you respect the privacy of the family during this trying time.”
