Los Angeles County has opened the LA County Emergency Rent Relief application window, offering short-term financial assistance to tenants and landlords across the San Gabriel Valley.
The county began accepting applications at 9 a.m. Feb. 9. The window closes at 4:59 p.m. March 11, 2026. Eligible households in El Monte, South El Monte, Baldwin Park, Rosemead, Arcadia, Temple City and Irwindale may apply.
County officials urge residents to review requirements and submit applications before the deadline. The program provides grants to households facing emergency financial hardship that has led to unpaid rent or related housing costs.
What LA County Emergency Rent Relief Covers
The LA County Emergency Rent Relief Program offers grants for past-due rent and certain housing-related expenses. Eligible households may receive up to six months of assistance, capped at $15,000 per rental unit, with limited exceptions.
Covered expenses may include unpaid rental debt and some utilities tied to documented financial hardship. The county sends approved payments directly to landlords to resolve outstanding balances.
Both tenants and landlords must complete their portions of the application. The county will not review incomplete submissions. If either party fails to participate, the application will not move forward.
Grants issued through the LA County Emergency Rent Relief Program do not require repayment.
How To Apply For LA County Emergency Rent Relief
Tenants may begin the application process on their own, but landlords must complete required documentation before the county processes the request. Applications are available online at https://lacountyrentrelief.com.
The county advises applicants to review full eligibility guidelines and gather necessary documents before starting the form. Required materials may include proof of income, identification and documentation of rental debt.
Los Angeles County is also offering workshops and technical assistance for residents who need help completing the application. Details about those services are posted on the program website.
Officials state that promotional materials provide only a summary of the program. Applicants should review the complete eligibility criteria and submission requirements online.
As housing costs remain elevated across the San Gabriel Valley, the LA County Emergency Rent Relief Program provides a temporary option for tenants and property owners managing overdue rent. With the March 11 deadline approaching, residents in El Monte and neighboring cities have a limited window to apply for assistance.
