Chair Fuentes had a long and distinguished career in public service. He first joined the Irwindale City Council in 2005, having been elected by the community. Recognizing his commitment and leadership, he was re-elected in 2009 and served as both Mayor and Mayor Pro Tem during his tenure. Before his time on the City Council, Fuentes served on the Planning Commission from 1999 to 2005, demonstrating his understanding of urban planning and community development.

In December 2021, after a brief hiatus, Fuentes was re-appointed to the Planning Commission, where he continued his unwavering dedication to the betterment of Irwindale. Since October 2023, he had been serving as the Commission’s Chair, overseeing important planning and zoning matters.

David “Chico” Fuentes will be remembered for his outstanding service, unwavering dedication, and love for the Irwindale community. His contributions to the City of Irwindale have had a lasting impact on its growth and development. His passing leaves a void that will be difficult to fill.
