The City of South El Monte Community Services Department is inviting residents to enjoy two free family-friendly evenings under the stars at Mary Van Dyke Park, located at 1819 Central Ave. As part of its annual Movies in the Park series, the city will screen Disney’s Moana 2 on Wednesday, July 24, and Pixar’s Cars on Wednesday, August 7. The events are open to the public and offer free admission, games, and complimentary food.
Family Events Begin at 7:00 PM
Each movie night begins with family activities at 7:00 p.m., with the film starting at dusk. Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs for comfort. South El Monte movies in the park are designed to bring the community together through free, safe, and interactive experiences.
Games and activities will be available for all ages, offering a playful lead-in to each film screening. Complimentary snacks and refreshments will be provided, making this a cost-free way for families to spend time together during the summer break.
Highlighting Community-Focused Programming
The July 24 screening of Moana 2 follows the newest chapter of the popular Polynesian heroine’s journey across the ocean. The animated sequel brings music, humor, and adventure suitable for viewers of all ages.
On August 7, Cars will take the spotlight with the high-speed story of Lightning McQueen and his road to humility and friendship. The Disney-Pixar classic is a crowd favorite for children and adults alike, making it a strong finale to the two-night movie series.
Mary Van Dyke Park is centrally located near the heart of South El Monte and offers ample space for events of this kind. Parking is free and available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Community Engagement Through Parks and Recreation
The Movies in the Park series is part of the city’s broader commitment to promoting health, wellness, and connectedness through recreational programs. This event aligns with the statewide “Parks Make Life Better” campaign, which encourages Californians to use their local parks as safe, inclusive spaces to play, socialize, and relax.
