Students with disabilities across the El Monte Union High School District are celebrating meaningful academic achievements. El Monte Union special education programs reported improvements in graduation rates, academic performance and student discipline, according to California’s 2025 School Dashboard.

The results were presented during the Oct. 7 El Monte Union High School District Board of Trustees meeting.

The findings highlight progress at schools serving families throughout the El Monte, South El Monte and Rosemead communities. They also identify opportunities to strengthen college readiness, career preparation and services that help students succeed beyond graduation.

The district reported an 81.2% graduation rate for students with disabilities, an increase of almost 2 percent from the previous reporting year.

Academic performance also improved in English language arts and mathematics, reflecting measurable gains despite continued challenges.

Students demonstrated academic progress in both English language arts and mathematics. English language arts scores improved by 15.3 points, while mathematics scores increased by 4.7 points compared with the previous reporting year.

The gains reflect encouraging progress as students continue working toward California’s academic standards.

The 2025 California School Dashboard highlighted progress in several key areas, including higher graduation rates, stronger academic performance and fewer student suspensions. These achievements reflect positive developments in educational outcomes for students with disabilities across the district.

Building on these academic achievements, El Monte Union is expanding its focus on preparing students with disabilities for college, careers and independent living. District educators are strengthening transition planning, developing individualized learning goals and identifying opportunities to help students build practical skills for success beyond high school.

The District provides a comprehensive range of special education services at Arroyo, El Monte, Mountain View, Rosemead and South El Monte high schools. These programs offer individualized academic instruction, classroom support and opportunities for students to develop important life skills.

Based on individual assessments, students may receive speech and language services, occupational and physical therapy, counseling, mental health support, behavioral services and transportation.

The district also offers community-based instruction at several campuses and an Adult Transition Program at Granada, helping students build independence and prepare for opportunities beyond high school.
