El Monte Union High School District’s student-athletes have demonstrated impressive achievements throughout their fall sports seasons, marking significant successes across various disciplines and culminating in several exciting postseason runs.
At South El Monte High School (SEMHS), the community had ample reason to celebrate as senior Jazmine Leyva, a standout multi-sport athlete, signed her letter of intent to continue her athletic career at UCLA. This pinnacle achievement comes after a distinguished tenure at SEMHS, where Leyva has excelled across her sporting commitments. It was an event celebrated with enthusiasm by her peers, coaches, and family, underscoring the local pride in nurturing high-level talent.
SEMHS also distinguished itself in team sports, securing the Mission Valley League (MVL) championships in both girls volleyball and football this year. The volleyball team didn’t just stop with a league title; they advanced to compete in the California Interscholastic Federation Southern Section (CIF-SS) playoffs, demonstrating their skills and competitive spirit on a broader stage.
Nearby, Rosemead High School’s girls volleyball team provided their own thrilling narrative by reaching the CIF-SS semifinals. This achievement marked a highlight in the school’s athletic endeavors and brought together the school community in support of their athletes.
El Monte High School also saw postseason action with its tennis team making an impressive run to the CIF-SS semifinals, showcasing talent and determination. The success in individual and team sports highlights the district’s comprehensive athletic development programs.
Athletic prowess was not limited to these schools alone. The district’s focus on track and field and cross country also bore fruit. El Monte, South El Monte, and Mountain View high schools each celebrated MVL titles in these categories, with numerous athletes progressing to the CIF-SS competitions. Arroyo High School deserves particular mention, as both its boys and girls cross country teams not only captured league titles but also made significant strides in the CIF-SS playoffs. Moreover, Arroyo’s football team enjoyed a strong postseason presence, further adding to the school’s athletic accolades.
The fall sports season at El Monte Union has been one of vibrant competition and commendable achievement. Coaches, community members, and, most importantly, the student-athletes themselves, have reasons to be proud. Their hard work, perseverance, and dedication have not only brought them individual and team recognitions but have also powerfully contributed to the spirited athletic culture within the district. As these young athletes excel in both the classroom and on the field, El Monte Union continues to foster an environment of excellence and growth.
