EL MONTE — El Monte Senior Nutrition Services will continue providing meals, wellness support and essential resources to older adults after the City of El Monte secured more than $211,000 in funding from the Los Angeles County Aging & Disability Department. The investment will help seniors remain healthy, connected and independent while continuing to live in their own homes.
The funding includes $176,758 for the city’s Elderly Nutrition Program and $35,000 for its Supportive Services Program, both administered through the Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department. Together, the programs provide nutritious meals, connect residents with community resources and offer services that improve quality of life for older adults throughout El Monte.
El Monte Senior Nutrition Services Meet Growing Needs
As California’s senior population continues to grow, communities are seeing increased demand for programs that help older adults age safely and independently. For many residents living on fixed incomes, nutrition programs provide reliable access to healthy meals while reducing the social isolation that often accompanies aging.
Home-delivered meals also provide an added layer of support. Staff members and volunteers who deliver meals often serve as an important point of contact, checking on participants’ well-being during regular visits. Those interactions can provide reassurance to families and help identify concerns before they become larger problems.
The city’s Supportive Services Program complements meal assistance by connecting seniors with information, referrals and resources that support daily living. Whether helping residents navigate available services or directing them to community programs, the goal is to remove barriers that can affect health, independence and overall well-being.
During City Council communications, Councilmember Sheila Crippen-Thomas announced that Meals on Wheels has received funding to expand outreach to local veterans. The additional support will help provide meals to veterans while continuing assistance for seniors who cannot afford the program’s voluntary $10 meal contribution.

The expanded outreach recognizes that many veterans face challenges similar to those experienced by other older adults, including mobility limitations, chronic health conditions and social isolation. Connecting veterans with meal services also creates opportunities to introduce them to other community resources that support long-term health and independence.
City leaders have increasingly emphasized programs that allow residents to remain in their homes as they age rather than requiring more costly forms of care. Investments in nutrition, wellness and supportive services strengthen the network of assistance available to seniors while helping families care for aging loved ones.
Although the funding was approved through grant agreements, its impact will be measured in everyday moments across El Monte. Meals will reach dining tables, seniors will receive wellness checks, veterans will gain access to additional support, and families will have greater confidence that loved ones are connected to caring professionals and volunteers.
