El Monte Rosemead Adult School welcomed students and families with a week of island-themed fun, trivia challenges, and community connections during its Aloha Meet & Greet Week, held Sept. 8–12. The celebration featured colorful Hawaiian décor across campus and daily activities designed to create a warm and inviting atmosphere for learners of all ages.

Celebration Welcomes Students and Families

The annual Meet & Greet Week serves as a way to introduce new students to the school while reconnecting with returning learners. This year’s theme embraced the spirit of “aloha” with games, friendly competitions, and a book fair that encouraged both literacy and community participation. Teachers and staff joined in the festivities by decorating classrooms and common areas, while students took part in daily trivia contests that highlighted both academic knowledge and cultural fun.

El Monte Rosemead Adult School, part of the El Monte Union High School District, offers programs ranging from English as a Second Language (ESL) to high school diploma courses and career technical training. Events such as Aloha Week help to strengthen bonds between the school and the wider community by making the campus a welcoming place for families.

Community Partners Share Free Resources

The highlight of the week was the Sept. 10 Resource Fair, which drew more than 20 community organizations and service providers. Families had the opportunity to connect with agencies offering free health services, job resources, financial education, and wellness information. Booths included local health clinics, workforce development programs, and community organizations dedicated to supporting adult learners and their families.

Resource Fairs at El Monte Rosemead Adult School are designed to connect education with real-life needs. For many adult students, balancing school, work, and family can be challenging. Having access to free health screenings, employment leads, and supportive services on campus helps reduce barriers and allows students to focus on their studies.

Building Connections Beyond the Classroom

Administrators say events like Aloha Meet & Greet Week play a critical role in creating a positive school culture. By pairing celebration with practical support, the adult school demonstrates its commitment to serving the whole family, not just the individual student.

The school has a long history of working with local partners to meet community needs. Past events have included flu shot clinics, job fairs, and literacy workshops. These programs often reach beyond the student body, welcoming family members and neighbors who benefit from the resources provided.

Continuing Role in the Community

As the adult school continues to expand its offerings, the success of Aloha Week underscores the importance of creating opportunities for engagement. From helping residents earn diplomas and certifications to offering English language instruction for newcomers, El Monte Rosemead Adult School remains a key educational hub for the San Gabriel Valley.

The school plans to host future events aimed at keeping students connected with both academic and community resources, reinforcing its mission to support lifelong learning in El Monte, Rosemead, and surrounding areas.
