by | Dec 9, 2025 | El Monte

El Monte Police Officer Jesus Rojas received the 2025 Peace Officers Association of Los Angeles County Centurion Award for Excellence in Community Policing, marking the first time in 96 years that an El Monte officer has earned the honor. The recognition highlights his long record of service and the strong relationships he has built across the city. The El Monte community policing award moment reflects a milestone for the department and the families it serves.

A First In Nearly A Century

POALAC began in 1929 and represents agencies throughout Los Angeles County. The association supports charitable programs that strengthen communities and honors officers who show leadership and compassion. In nearly a century of recipients, no El Monte officer had been selected until this year. Department leaders said the award confirms the meaningful impact Officer Rojas has made in local neighborhoods.

Rojas earned the recognition for his sustained commitment to outreach, safety education and family centered programs. Colleagues said he stands at the center of many signature events that define community engagement in El Monte. His work includes the Christmas Holiday Toy Giveaway, the Thanksgiving Turkey Giveaway, Red Ribbon Week campaigns, National Night Out, department open house events and frequent safety presentations. He also supports the Citizens Academy and helps guide youth through the El Monte Torch Program.

Community Impact Recognized

Officials praised his focus on trust and support. Many said families know him as a steady presence and a familiar face at youth programs. His approach emphasizes conversation, visibility and partnership with residents who want safe streets and strong relationships with officers. Leaders in the department credit him with helping shape a culture that values outreach as much as enforcement.

Present at the ceremony was Jessie Redd, Managing Director for the USC Sol Price School of Public Policy. Officer Rojas completed a program through the school. Redd said the award reflects a commitment to service that aligns with the values taught there. Department staff noted that his academic preparation strengthened his work in the field and broadened his approach to public service.

A Moment Of Pride For El Monte

El Monte Police Chief Jake Fisher said the recognition reflects well on the department and the city. He described the award as a proud moment for residents who support the department’s efforts to maintain strong community ties. POALAC Board Members Chief Emeritus David Reynoso and Lt. Aram Choe also attended the event and offered praise for the officer’s dedication.
