El Monte man killed in suspected gang-related shooting in La Puente

LA PUENTE  — A 43-year-old man shot to death in La Puente was identified Saturday.

Jose Salinas was an El Monte resident, said coroner’s Lt. David Smith.

Deputies responded at 8:01 p.m. Friday to an apartment complex in the 17000 block of Hurley Street regarding a gunshot victim call.

They discovered Salinas unresponsive on the sidewalk suffering from gunshot wounds, said Deputy Miguel Meza of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau.

Salinas was pronounced dead at the scene.

No suspect or suspect vehicle description was available. Investigators said the shooting may have been gang related.
