Parents and caregivers in El Monte are invited to take part in school readiness storytime, a program designed for children ages 2 to 5 and their caregivers. The series combines books, songs, rhymes, and movement activities that prepare young learners for school while keeping the experience fun and engaging.
The program is part of Smart Start at the Library, the Los Angeles County Library’s early learning initiative for children ages 0 to 5 and their caregivers. Attendance is limited, and advance registration is required. Each attendee, including children, must be registered to reserve a spot. Walk-in participants who have not registered in advance cannot be guaranteed space.
Parent Cafés Offer Added Support
Following Storytime, caregivers can join Parent Cafés, where they will have the chance to connect with other parents and caregivers. These sessions will also provide parenting tips led by a librarian accredited through the Triple P Positive Parenting Program. Parent Café dates at the El Monte Library are scheduled for August 21, 2025, and September 25, 2025.
Program materials and support are made possible through collaboration with the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health and the Mental Health Services Act (MHSA).
About the El Monte Library
The El Monte Library has been a cornerstone of the community since its founding in 1890. It joined the Los Angeles County Public Library system in 1913 and has been located at its current site since 1967. The city of El Monte itself, incorporated in 1912, has a rich history as the “End of the Santa Fe Trail” and was once home to Gay’s Lion Farm, whose lions roared in the iconic MGM movie logo.
Community members can learn more and register for the program at the Los Angeles County Library website: lacountylibrary.org.
