El Monte City School District will continue to provide four daily grab-and-go meals every weekday throughout the summer to ensure strong nutrition is available for the children of our community.
Meals include breakfast, lunch, dinner and a snack, and will be distributed from 9 a.m. to noon Monday, June 8 to Monday, Aug. 17 at the same four schools that served as meal sites during the extended school closure in spring.
“Part of our mission as educators is to ensure our students are prepared to learn and that begins with solid nutrition,” Superintendent Dr. Maribel Garcia said. “Our District has committed to providing this resource to support our community in this time of great need.”
El Monte City School District expanded its meal program with the benefit of grant funding, enabling the District to provide a full menu of meals for each day. During the extended closure, the District served about 900,000 meals, or roughly 80,000 each week.
Meals are available to all children ages 18 and younger. As during the extended closure, children will not need to be present for meal pickup throughout the summer.
Distribution sights are: s: Durfee School: 12233 Star St. El Monte; Gidley School: 10226 E. Lower Azusa Ave. El Monte; Potrero School: 2611 N. Potrero Ave., El Monte and Shirpser School: 4020 Gibson Road, El Monte.
