On November 2, 2025, the streets of South El Monte and El Monte will come alive with the spirit of community and healthy living as the Corazon Del Valle event transforms five miles of urban landscape into a vibrant, car-free zone from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. This exceptional event, modeled after the popular CicLAvia in Los Angeles, invites residents and visitors alike to bike, walk, skate, and enjoy the streets without the presence of motor vehicles.
Corazon Del Valle is not just an ordinary street fair. It is a celebration of community, public space, and active transportation. The event is organized by ActiveSGV along with the cities of South El Monte and El Monte, the San Gabriel Valley Council of Governments, and Metro, bringing a substantial backing and ensuring a well-coordinated affair. This initiative draws inspiration from the success of the Arroyo Fest, which attracted thousands to the 110 Freeway in 2023.
The selected route for this day-long festival is thoughtfully chosen to highlight the cultural and civic landmarks of the Monte area. Participants will pass local favorites such as Famous Ed’s Liquor and Tito’s Market, providing a unique opportunity to view these places from a new perspective. The route also includes stops at significant community gathering points like Nativity Church, Valley Mall, and Arceo Park.
Additionally, the streets will host a variety of activities beyond just walking and biking. Food stalls, musical performances, and pop-up art installations will line the route, providing entertainment and engagement for families and individuals of all ages. This event not only encourages physical activity but also aims to boost local businesses by increasing foot traffic to the many mom-and-pop shops in the area.
Schools like Potrero School and civic landmarks such as the South El Monte Civic Center play a crucial role in community life and will be accessible to attendees, fostering a greater sense of community ownership and pride.
By connecting neighborhoods through public spaces, Corazon Del Valle hopes to foster a deeper bond among residents and create lasting memories for everyone involved. This event stands as a testament to the vibrant, community-oriented spirit of South El Monte and El Monte—a day to put aside cars, embrace city streets on foot or wheels, and celebrate the heart of the San Gabriel Valley.
