The Baldwin Park City Council voted unanimously Nov. 5 to approve an updated city fee schedule for building permits and recreation services during its regular meeting in the Council Chamber at 14403 E. Pacific Ave.

Council adopts revised building and recreation fees

Finance Director Rose Tam presented the revised schedule, explaining that the updates apply to building permit fees and selected recreation charges. She directed residents seeking details to staff and noted that the full list of updated fees is available on the city website under meeting agendas.

Tam said the revisions align city charges with current costs for staffing, inspection, and program administration. The changes follow a periodic review intended to keep fees consistent with service delivery expenses rather than using general fund revenues to subsidize certain programs.

Residents call for more visible public information

Several residents who spoke during public comment said the presentation did not include visible fee tables or summaries on the meeting screen. Speakers asked for clearer notice of proposed changes and easier access to itemized details before future hearings. Some expressed concern that residents might not understand the extent of fee adjustments affecting building projects and recreation activities until after approval.

In response, Tam and city staff noted that the proposed schedule was published online in advance as part of the agenda packet. They added that the same information remains available to the public through the city’s website at www.baldwinpark.com.

Council vote and next steps

After discussion, Councilmember Ricardo Lozano moved to approve the updated fee schedule. The motion was seconded and passed 5–0 by roll call vote. The city clerk confirmed that the adopted schedule is part of the official meeting record and remains posted with the agenda materials.

City officials said the revised fees will take effect in accordance with the implementing ordinance. Residents and contractors may review the current rates for building permits, recreation programs, and related services through the finance or community development departments.

Community impact and access to information

The update affects permit applicants and recreation users who will see adjusted charges for services beginning this winter. City staff encouraged residents to review the fee list online or contact the respective departments with questions.

The city’s next regular council meeting is scheduled for later this month, when staff will provide an update on implementation and public notice procedures. Officials emphasized their intent to maintain transparent access to all municipal fee information through posted agenda materials.
