The team received certificates of recognition during the district’s monthly board meeting, celebrating a season that brought pride and excitement to the El Monte community.
The Arroyo Knights’ championship victory marks a major milestone in the school’s athletic history and reflects the dedication of the student-athletes, coaching staff, and supporters.
Celebration of a Winning Season
At the board meeting, trustees highlighted the hard work and perseverance that defined the Knights’ season. Players and coaches were called up individually to receive their certificates, with applause from family members, district staff, and community members in attendance.
“El Monte Union is incredibly proud of these young athletes,” said Board President Ricardo Padilla. “Their teamwork and discipline are an inspiration to students across the district.”
Led by Head Coach Daniel Gomez, the team overcame strong competition throughout the season to earn their place in the CIF Southern Section title game. The Knights clinched the championship with a hard-fought win, finishing with a 24-6 record.
Commitment On and Off the Court
The district also praised the team’s academic commitment. Several players maintained high GPAs while balancing practices, travel, and games. Coach Gomez credited the players’ families and school staff for their support.
“These young men put in countless hours in the gym and in the classroom,” said Gomez. “This championship reflects their total commitment to excellence.”
Board members noted that the team’s win highlights the importance of extracurricular activities in promoting leadership, collaboration, and school pride—values central to Arroyo High School’s mission.
