An Update From Our Saviour Center

By Dick James

It’s possible we’re starting to come out the other side of these Stay at Home orders from the Governor. I know he’s probably doing the best he can but he probably feels like a long tail cat in a room full of rocking chairs right about now.

Regardless, the sun is out and folks are running around with no place to go and all the time in the world to get there and it just doesn’t feel right to share one of my stories when so many people are still in need of stability and security.

So I’ll go with another “guest” column…and this week it’s an update from our friend Jane Fall who is working hard at Our Savior Center to feed people and focus on their well-being.

So, without further ado, I’d like to welcome our good friend, Jane Fall, Executive Director of Our Saviour Center here in El Monte…

Hello Friends and Neighbors –

As we enter the first official weekend of Summer, 2020, I would like to provide some updates from Our Saviour Center about our continuing work in the community, even during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Our Food Pantries continue to meet the urgent food insecurity needs of our community. We operate a food pantry Monday- Thursday and distribute food to approximately 1,400 households each week. This volume represents a 250% increase since the Covid-19 outbreak.

Additionally, Our Saviour Center’s Dorris Dann Kids Campus (DDKC), in partnership with the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank, is providing much needed sustenance to our community as well. Every weekday, we distribute approximately 125 Ready-To-Eat meals to local families. We also distribute more food at DDKC through a new corporate partnership. On Monday, May 18, Our Saviour Center launched a new partnership with The Caterina Club. Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, The Caterina Club generously donates 200 warm meals each day which are distributed at the Dorris Dann Kids Campus. These 2 food distributions at the Dorris Dann Kids Campus provide approximately 1,225 meals to local families each week. These meals and this community outreach are in response to increased need during this Covid-19 season.

During this time of increased need within our community, Our Saviour Center is especially grateful for our partners, donors and volunteers who are impacting so many lives. If you are interested in volunteering or exploring a corporate partnership, please email To make a donation, please visit
