The El Monte–Rosemead Adult School (EMRAS) continues to open doors for local residents through affordable, career-focused programs that prepare students for new opportunities in education and employment. With a mission to empower a diverse student body in a supportive environment, the school offers a wide range of academic and technical training designed to meet the community’s evolving needs.
Located at 10807 Ramona Blvd. in El Monte, EMRAS provides in-person and online instruction, flexible scheduling, and free resources that make continuing education accessible to adults at every stage of life.
Career Training for Working Adults
One of the school’s most impactful contributions to the community is its Career Technical Education (CTE) program, which helps residents gain practical skills and certifications for high-demand fields. Students can train for careers in healthcare, business, technology, construction, and manufacturing.
Medical courses such as Medical Assistant, Pharmacy Technician, and Phlebotomy prepare students for entry-level healthcare positions. Business and finance classes, including Accounting Clerk and Microsoft Suites, equip learners with office and computer skills vital in today’s job market. For those pursuing trade professions, EMRAS offers instruction in construction, custodial maintenance, and electrician training, supporting both career changers and those seeking advancement.
Each CTE course leads to a certificate of completion that can be used to enter the workforce quickly or continue toward further study.
Education for a Better Future
Beyond career training, EMRAS provides foundational academic programs that help students earn their high school diploma or equivalency. The school offers traditional and online classes in English, math, science, social studies, and fine arts, along with free test preparation for the High School Equivalency Test (HiSET) and General Educational Development (GED) exams.
These options allow adult learners to complete unfinished education or qualify for college and vocational programs. Counseling staff assist students with transcript evaluations, educational planning, and course selection to personalize each learning path.
Language Learning and Citizenship Support
For English learners, EMRAS hosts a robust English as a Second Language (ESL) program that serves students from beginner to advanced levels. Classes are held during the day and evening at both the main campus and Rosemead High School, with an additional distance learning option for students balancing work and family responsibilities.
The Citizenship Preparation course helps applicants prepare for their naturalization interview, reviewing the N-400 application and covering civics, reading, and writing. These programs strengthen community inclusion by helping residents build language skills and engage more fully in civic life.
Family-Friendly Learning Environment
Recognizing that many adult students are also parents, EMRAS offers free on-site babysitting for children ages three to eleven during select morning and evening sessions. This service allows more residents to attend classes and focus on their studies while their children are cared for nearby.
A Strong Partner in the Region
As a proud member of the Río Hondo Region Adult Education Consortium, EMRAS collaborates with local districts to expand learning opportunities across the San Gabriel Valley. Its inclusive approach helps residents gain confidence, strengthen the local workforce, and improve quality of life for families throughout El Monte and Rosemead.
