Cal Poly Pomona Rankings Highlight Regional Value

|

POMONA — Cal Poly Pomona Rankings place the university among the top public institutions in the West, according to U.S. News & World Report’s 2027 Best Colleges rankings. The results also give San Gabriel Valley students another measure to consider when comparing nearby universities.

Cal Poly Pomona ranked No. 2 among public universities in the West. It also ranked No. 2 among Regional Universities in the West, moving up one position from the previous year.

The university tied for No. 2 for Best Value for In-State Students. It also maintained its No. 2 position for Best Colleges for Veterans in the West.

Cal Poly Pomona Rankings Cover Western Region

The Cal Poly Pomona Rankings require some context. The regional distinctions apply to U.S. News’ Regional Universities West category rather than every college nationwide.

The western region includes 15 states. Cal Poly Pomona also ranked No. 19 among Best Value Schools in the region.

U.S. News evaluated nearly 1,700 colleges and universities for its 2027 Best Colleges rankings. Its methodology uses measures related to academic quality and student success.

Those measures include graduation and retention rates, social mobility, faculty resources, financial resources and student indebtedness. Prospective students can learn more about the results through Cal Poly Pomona’s 2027 rankings announcement.

Engineering Programs Receive National Recognition

Cal Poly Pomona’s College of Engineering also received national recognition. Its undergraduate engineering program ranked No. 12 among schools where an engineering doctorate is not offered.

Five engineering specialties placed among the top 10 within that category. Computer engineering tied for No. 2, while aerospace engineering ranked No. 4.

Civil engineering ranked No. 5. Electrical engineering tied for No. 6, while mechanical engineering placed No. 8.

The engineering rankings also have an important limitation. They compare undergraduate programs at institutions that do not offer an engineering doctorate. They do not represent a ranking of every engineering program nationwide.

U.S. News bases these undergraduate engineering specialty rankings on peer assessments. Engineering deans and senior faculty at accredited programs participate in the assessments.

Rankings Offer One College Comparison

College rankings can provide students with one source of information when researching universities. Other considerations include available majors, tuition, financial aid, location and campus environment.

For students in the San Gabriel Valley, Cal Poly Pomona offers a public university option within the region. Its latest rankings highlight both its broader standing among western regional universities and several undergraduate engineering specialties.

The university’s proximity may also allow some local students to remain closer to their families and communities while attending college.

For prospective students and families across the San Gabriel Valley, the 2027 results provide another reference point as they research colleges and compare academic programs.
