Central Metro Place Opens Senior Housing

|

BALDWIN PARK — Central Metro Place Opens with 54 affordable one-bedroom apartments for adults 62 and older near the Baldwin Park Metrolink station. The new development gives income-eligible seniors another housing option with access to transit, shopping and community amenities.

City officials joined nonprofit developer Retirement Housing Foundation for a Sept. 23 dedication of Central Metro Place. The four-story development includes 55 units overall, with 54 affordable apartments and one manager’s unit. RHF recently described the property as a newly built senior community.

The property is at 14513 Central Ave., directly across from the Metrolink station. RHF says nearby shops and restaurants are also within easy reach.

Central Metro Place Opens Near Transit

Central Metro Place Opens with several shared spaces intended to encourage activities and interaction among residents.

The first floor includes a community room with a kitchen, arts and crafts room, exercise room and laundry facilities. Residents also have access to a computer room and outdoor planter boxes for growing flowers and vegetables.

RHF says half of the apartments are accessible for residents with mobility impairments. Some units also accommodate residents with visual or hearing impairments.

The location across from the Metrolink station gives residents another transportation option. It can provide access to regional transit for residents who do not drive or prefer public transportation.

Central Metro Place provides more information about the property and its application process.

Project Developed Through City Partnership

The development traces its roots to a 2019 agreement between Baldwin Park and RHF. City housing documents show the project was planned as a 100% affordable senior development near a major transit stop.

California housing finance records show Central Metro Place received federal tax credits and other subsidies. The project serves households earning between 30% and 60% of area median income. Federal Section 8 assistance also supports the development.

Baldwin Park also participated in financing the project. City records identify Central Metro Place as part of the city’s broader affordable housing efforts.

Affordable Apartments Serve Older Adults

RHF says Central Metro Place operates through federal affordable housing programs and provides rental subsidies to eligible seniors. The organization’s property page does not list a current monthly rent schedule.

Applicants must meet eligibility requirements. RHF directs prospective residents to complete an application, with qualifying applicants placed on a waiting list.

The City of Baldwin Park also provides information about its federal HOME program and affordable housing activities.

Prospective residents can contact Central Metro Place at 626-885-8720 for current eligibility, application and availability information.

For Baldwin Park, the opening adds affordable senior apartments near the city’s primary regional rail connection. The development combines housing, shared amenities and transit access in the city’s downtown area.
