BALDWIN PARK — Baldwin Park is inviting residents, students and community artists to help tell a story of remembrance through art. The Baldwin Park Art Exhibit for Día de los Muertos will feature original works created by members of the community this fall.
The city’s annual Día de los Muertos Art Exhibition will run from Sept. 28 through Nov. 7 at the Arts & Recreation Center. Artists must submit their work for consideration by 5 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17.
The City of Baldwin Park’s call for artists invites participants to share artwork reflecting the beauty, tradition and spirit of Día de los Muertos.
Community Artists Shape Annual Exhibit
Día de los Muertos centers on remembering and honoring family members and loved ones who have died. The Mexican tradition often includes ofrendas, or altars, featuring photographs, candles, marigolds, food and meaningful objects.
Visual art has also become a prominent part of contemporary celebrations. Artists frequently draw from flowers, decorated skulls and other imagery connected with memory, family and cultural traditions.
Baldwin Park’s exhibition gives local artists an opportunity to bring their own perspectives to those themes. The invitation extends to residents, students and community artists rather than limiting participation to established artists.
That approach allows people of different ages and experience levels to display their work as part of a public cultural program.
The city requires application approval before accepting artwork. Approved pieces may be dropped off through Sept. 17. Drop-off hours are Mondays and Wednesdays from 4 to 7 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., according to the city.
Baldwin Park Art Exhibit Joins Celebration
The exhibition will lead into Baldwin Park’s larger Día de los Muertos observance in October.
The city has scheduled its Día de los Muertos Cultural Celebration for Friday, Oct. 23, at Susan Rubio Zocalo Park. The event appears on the city’s 2026 Recreation and Community Services special events schedule.
Together, the exhibition and cultural celebration create opportunities for residents to participate in the tradition through art and community activities. For younger artists, the exhibition can also connect creative expression with cultural traditions shared across generations.
The artwork will remain on display through Saturday, Nov. 7. That schedule gives residents time to visit the exhibition after the Oct. 23 cultural celebration.
