A High School Wellness Program at Mountain View High School earned countywide recognition after being selected for presentation at the Los Angeles County Office of Education’s Nutrition and Wellness Programs Year-End Celebration and Local Educational Agencies Showcase. The June 24 event brought together educators from across Los Angeles County to highlight evidence-based programs that promote the health and well-being of students, staff and families.
Mountain View High School was among the schools chosen to share successful strategies that support student wellness and foster positive learning environments. The annual showcase gives educators an opportunity to exchange ideas and identify practices that can be adapted in schools throughout the county.
The recognition highlights the El Monte Union High School District’s ongoing efforts to address the academic, emotional and social needs of students through comprehensive support programs.
High School Wellness Program Supports Students
Mountain View High School’s Socio-Emotional Wellness Program focuses on creating a school environment where students feel connected, supported and prepared to succeed. Educators have increasingly recognized that students’ emotional well-being plays an important role in academic achievement, attendance and overall engagement.
School-based wellness initiatives often include counseling services, social-emotional learning, peer support, family engagement and activities that help students develop resilience, manage stress and build healthy relationships. These resources also help schools identify students who may need additional support before challenges become larger barriers to learning.
Research continues to show that students who feel safe and supported at school are more likely to attend class consistently, participate in lessons and perform better academically. As a result, many California school districts have expanded services that address the whole student rather than focusing solely on classroom instruction.
