IRWINDALE — Rize Credit Union financial wellness efforts took center stage as the member-owned financial institution honored two local partners for expanding access to financial education and community resources. The annual Advocate of the Year Award recognizes organizations and individuals whose leadership helps strengthen financial security throughout the communities Rize serves.
This year’s recipients are the Mid Valley Family YMCA and David Ford, senior government relations manager at Southern California Edison. Both were recognized for supporting partnerships that improve financial literacy, increase access to services and create opportunities for residents to build stronger financial futures.
“We’re proud to recognize the recipients of our Advocate of the Year Award, an honor that reflects the heart of who we are as a credit union,” Rize Credit Union President and CEO Jennifer Oliver said in a statement. “At Rize Credit Union, we believe our mission extends far beyond traditional banking.”
Oliver said the award celebrates partners whose work creates meaningful opportunities for individuals and families while advancing the credit union’s community mission.
Rize Credit Union Financial Wellness Partnership
The Mid Valley Family YMCA earned the honor for partnering with Rize Credit Union to create the Amigo Lounge, a community space that expands access to financial education and support services.
Located inside the YMCA, the Amigo Lounge offers free Wi-Fi, computer access and one-on-one financial counseling. Residents can use the space to study, complete online tasks or receive guidance on budgeting, saving and managing personal finances.
Financial wellness reaches beyond opening a checking or savings account. It includes managing everyday expenses, preparing for emergencies, reducing debt and planning for long-term goals such as buying a home, paying for college or saving for retirement.
As housing costs and inflation continue to pressure household budgets, financial literacy programs have become increasingly valuable. Community-based coaching and credit education can help residents make informed financial decisions while reducing reliance on high-interest borrowing.
Placing financial counseling inside a trusted community organization also makes those services easier to access. Families already visiting the YMCA for youth programs, recreation or fitness activities can connect with financial resources in a familiar setting.
Community Leadership Recognized
Rize Credit Union also honored Ford for his longtime support of the organization’s mission. According to the credit union, Ford has helped strengthen relationships within Southern California Edison while identifying opportunities for Rize to better serve employees, members and surrounding communities.
