Coffee Time With Deputies Builds Rosemead Trust

Residents will have a chance to meet local law enforcement in a relaxed setting when the City of Rosemead hosts Coffee Time with the Deputies later this month. The community event is scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 21, from 10 a.m. to noon at Da Vien Coffee on Garvey Avenue.

The event brings together residents, city staff, and deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Temple Station for informal conversation over coffee or tea. City officials say Coffee Time with the Deputies is designed to strengthen trust and improve communication between law enforcement and the community.

City leaders view Coffee Time with the Deputies as an effective way to break down barriers that can exist between residents and public safety officials. By moving conversations out of formal settings, deputies can listen directly to neighborhood concerns and answer questions in real time.

“Coffee Time with the Deputies gives residents access to the people who patrol their neighborhoods every day,” the city said in a statement. “It helps build familiarity and understanding on both sides.”

Building Connections Outside City Hall

Unlike traditional meetings, Coffee Time with the Deputies does not follow a structured agenda. Residents can stop by at any point during the two-hour window to speak with deputies one on one or in small groups.

Public safety officials say these conversations often lead to more candid discussions about local issues such as traffic safety, quality-of-life concerns, and crime prevention. Deputies also use the opportunity to share information about services and programs offered through the Sheriff’s Department.

City officials note that consistent community engagement is a key part of effective public safety. Events like Coffee Time with the Deputies allow law enforcement to hear directly from residents who may not attend formal council meetings or workshops.

Supporting Community-Based Public Safety

Coffee Time with the Deputies is part of Rosemead’s broader public safety outreach strategy, which emphasizes communication and partnership. City leaders believe trust grows when residents feel comfortable approaching deputies with concerns before problems escalate.

Community-based events also help deputies better understand the neighborhoods they serve. That local knowledge can inform patrol strategies and improve response to community needs.

Residents are encouraged to attend whether they have specific concerns or simply want to meet their local deputies. City officials stress that all ages are welcome and no RSVP is required.

The event will be held at Da Vien Coffee, located at 8968 Garvey Ave., Unit A, in Rosemead.
