The California Council for Adult Education, known as CCAE, hosts regional conferences to provide training and acknowledge excellence. EMRAS sent a team of staff members who participated in workshops and collaborative sessions designed to improve instructional practices, student services, and program development. The event offered a space for districts to share strategies that improve access to adult education and encourage student persistence.

Recognition reflects district commitment

The EMRAS Adult Education Honors recognized three staff members for their service during the conference awards ceremony. Lucia Perez earned the Excellence in Support Services award for classified employees. Luis Serrano received the Excellence in Teaching award, recognizing educators who demonstrate strong instructional practice. Maria Grubb was honored for Excellence in Support Services in the certificated category. Each award reflects the contributions employees make to support the district’s mission.

The honors align with EMRAS priorities that stress high-quality instruction, responsive support systems, and partnerships with local agencies. Adult schools serve diverse learners who balance work, family responsibilities, and academic goals. Staff support is essential for student progress, especially in programs such as ESL, high school diploma coursework, career training, and citizenship preparation. Awards at the regional level highlight the continued impact of EMRAS staff throughout the community.

Broad impact across the region

The EMRAS Adult Education Honors also reinforce the district’s growing presence within adult education networks. Participation in the CCAE South Coast Conference offers staff new tools and knowledge that can strengthen program delivery and broaden opportunities for students. The awards showcase the district’s investment in staff development and recognize the effort required to maintain strong programs in a changing educational landscape.

As EMRAS prepares for upcoming terms, the recognition serves as a reminder of the important role adult education plays in the region. The district continues to develop programs that support workforce needs, improve language skills, and create pathways for advancement. The success at the conference reflects the dedication of employees who work daily to improve access and outcomes for adult learners.
