Rosemead High academic performance continues to draw attention across the San Gabriel Valley as the school outpaces state averages in English and math, even while serving a student body where nearly 87 percent come from low-income households.
According to the 2023–24 School Accountability Report Card, 73 percent of students at Rosemead High met or exceeded state standards in English language arts, compared with 47 percent statewide. In mathematics, 44 percent achieved proficiency or better, surpassing the California average of 35 percent. The results mark a significant milestone for the El Monte Union High School District, highlighting the school’s strong instructional focus and targeted student support.
Focused Support and College Preparation
The report credits much of Rosemead High academic performance to programs that promote equity and readiness for college. Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) continues to expand, offering tutoring, mentoring, and structured academic support. Teachers incorporate WICOR strategies—writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization, and reading—to build critical thinking and communication skills.
During the 2023–24 academic year, 90 percent of students enrolled in courses required for University of California and California State University admission. Nearly 58 percent of graduates completed all A–G coursework, a steady improvement from previous years. The school offers 17 Advanced Placement classes, with more than a quarter of students enrolled.
Principal Janine Salanitro described the school’s approach as a blend of rigor and access. “We want every student to see a path to higher education,” she said. “Rosemead High’s academic performance reflects our teachers’ dedication and our students’ perseverance.”
Teachers and Data-Driven Instruction
More than 92 percent of Rosemead’s teachers hold full credentials, exceeding state averages. Many also hold advanced degrees. The district provides continuous professional development tied to data analysis, Common Core alignment, and multi-tiered support systems. These efforts have led to consistent improvements in both literacy and math readiness.
Students learning English benefit from Title I-funded language development classes and targeted after-school tutoring. Educators use formative assessments to track progress and provide individualized instruction, contributing to steady academic gains.
Community and Family Engagement
Rosemead High maintains strong partnerships with parents through monthly “Coffee with the Principal” meetings and workshops on college access and financial aid. The ParentSquare platform helps families stay informed about grades, testing, and counseling opportunities.
Even as enrollment declines across the district, Rosemead High’s academic performance underscores the resilience of its students and staff. The school’s results demonstrate that focused instruction, community engagement, and consistent leadership can drive success regardless of economic barriers.
