El Monte Union Seeks Community Input on Campus Upgrades

The El Monte Union High School District is inviting community members to share their ideas on the future of school facilities at a series of town hall meetings this month. Since 2018, the district has invested more than $275 million in modernization projects, but leaders say additional upgrades are needed to ensure safe, high-quality campuses and maintain eligibility for state funding.

Town halls will take place from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 14, at South El Monte High School; Thursday, Oct. 23, at Mountain View High School; Tuesday, Oct. 28, at Arroyo High School; and Thursday, Oct. 30, at El Monte High School. The sessions will allow students, parents, staff, and residents to discuss district priorities and provide feedback on the updated Facilities Master Plan.

Continuing a Legacy of Modernization

The district’s Facilities Master Plan guides long-term infrastructure investment, balancing classroom needs, energy efficiency, and safety upgrades. El Monte Union has completed several major renovation projects in recent years, including a modernization of Mountain View High School that introduced updated classrooms, athletic facilities, and new outdoor gathering spaces. Other improvements have included upgraded HVAC systems, refurbished gyms, synthetic turf fields, and energy-efficient lighting across campuses.

Partnering with the Southern California Regional Energy Network, the district has also focused on sustainability, installing modern HVAC systems at five schools to improve air quality and energy performance. These improvements reflect a districtwide effort to create more comfortable and environmentally responsible learning environments while reducing operating costs.

Community Engagement in Planning

District officials say community input is critical to shaping the next phase of improvements. Students, parents, and neighborhood residents are encouraged to attend the meetings or share feedback online. The updated Facilities Master Plan will set the direction for the next decade of capital projects, addressing facility repairs, program expansion, and long-term maintenance needs.

“The Facilities Master Plan belongs to the community—it’s our roadmap for providing safe, modern schools where students can thrive,” district officials said in a statement. “Hearing from our families and residents ensures that investments reflect what our community values most.”

The finalized plan is expected to go before the El Monte Union Board of Education later this year. Residents can find more information about the Facilities Master Plan and upcoming meetings at emuhsd.org.
