South El Monte High School students looking to improve grades, make up missed class time, or prepare for upcoming exams have a new opportunity this month through the school’s Saturday Academy program.
Held every Saturday in October, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. in Room 161, the program is led by teacher Mr. Bocanegra and designed to help students stay on track academically while earning attendance credit.
Academic Support and Attendance Recovery
The Saturday Academy offers students a structured environment to complete homework, receive extra tutoring, and get personalized help with challenging subjects. In addition, the sessions allow students to make up absences, helping them avoid the consequences of missed instructional time and ensuring they remain eligible for credit and participation in school activities.
According to district officials, programs like Saturday Academy have been instrumental in helping students meet attendance goals and raise their academic performance. The initiative is part of El Monte Union High School District’s ongoing effort to support students’ success and address learning loss through extended learning opportunities.
A Welcoming Space for Learning
The academy is open to all South El Monte High students who wish to catch up or get ahead. Students can expect a supportive classroom setting that encourages productivity, collaboration, and preparation for upcoming tests and projects.
The Saturday Academy aligns with the district’s broader mission to foster student growth through consistent engagement and academic reinforcement. Each Saturday session provides individualized attention in small group settings, giving students the chance to focus on specific academic challenges. Participation also reinforces the importance of responsibility and time management. By dedicating part of their weekend to learning, students strengthen skills that carry over into their regular coursework. Families are encouraged to take advantage of the program as a tool for continued academic progress and personal accountability.
Saturday Academy sessions are scheduled for October 4, 11, 18, and 25, 2025. Students are encouraged to bring their assignments, study materials, and a positive attitude.
