Temple City Library will host a free session of Adult 101 life skills for teens on Friday, August 8, from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. The program, titled Adult 101: Life Skills for Teens: Decision Making, is designed for ages 13 to 17 and focuses on helping teens build real-world decision-making skills.
Participants will learn how to evaluate choices, understand consequences, and act with greater confidence—all while engaging in an interactive activity that puts their new skills to the test.
Life Skills Sessions Support Teen Growth
The event begins with a guided discussion led by library staff, offering strategies for breaking down complex decisions into smaller, manageable steps. Teens will then participate in the “Decision Tower Challenge,” a hands-on activity where they’ll apply what they’ve learned in a collaborative setting.
According to the program listing on the LA County Library website, the activity allows teens to “apply the decision-making skills that you learned by trying to conquer our Decision tower challenge.”
This interactive format provides more than just instruction—it gives teens a chance to practice and reflect in real time.
Long History of Youth-Focused Learning
Temple City Library has served the community for over a century. What began as a small lending library in the home of Willa Samson in 1924 has grown into a full-service branch of the LA County Library system.
After several relocations due to increasing demand, the current building on Golden West Avenue opened in 1963. The library underwent a major renovation and reopened in May 2022 with modern amenities, including a new Children’s Area, a Community Meeting Room, additional seating, laptop vending machines, and drought-tolerant landscaping.
The updated space has allowed the library to expand its teen-focused offerings, such as the Adult 101 life skills for teens series.
Building Decision-Making Confidence
Programs like this one are part of a broader effort by LA County Library to equip teens with practical tools for life beyond the classroom. While many teens today face academic and social pressures, opportunities to learn how to make sound decisions are often limited to trial and error.
By offering structured learning and supportive group challenges, the Adult 101 session gives teens a safe place to think through real-life scenarios. Parents and guardians can view the program as a positive supplement to what teens are already navigating at school and home.
How to Attend
The event is free to attend and open to all teens between the ages of 13 and 17. No library card is required to participate. Seating may be limited, and early arrival is encouraged.

Community Impact
Temple City Library continues to be a central resource for youth enrichment in the San Gabriel Valley. Programs like Adult 101 life skills for teens provide teens with more than just facts—they offer tools for lifelong learning, self-awareness, and personal growth.
By investing in this type of community-based education, the library helps prepare teens not only for graduation, but for life.
